Children's Computers
- Computers with pre-loaded children's games are available to junior patrons
- Headphones may be requested at the counter (limited to these machines)

Canadian Directory to Foundations and Corporations
- A laptop computer was donated by The Community Foundation of Portage
and District, Inc.
- It is for the exclusive use of people wanting to access the Canadian Directory
to Foundations and Corporations.
- The Community Foundation of Portage and District Inc. has purchased this
data-base to assist in community fund raising efforts.
- The licensing agreement for the library version for the Canadian Directory to
Foundations requires the user to access the website (Imagine Canada) through the library's public access Internet machines or the designated laptop.
- Personal laptops are unable to access this site.
- The laptop is available to members and non-members free of charge.
- Library members must present their membership card to access the machine.
- Non-members will be signed on to the laptop with the library's non-membership card
(I.D. is required).
- The laptop may be booked in advance.
- Walk-in patrons may use the laptop if it is not reserved, but must give way to
individuals who have booked the laptop if there is a time conflict.
- There is no set time limit (with the exception of a conflict with reserved bookings).
- Printing is available for a fee.
- Anyone damaging the laptop computer may have their library privileges revoked and
may be charged for the damages.
Public Internet Access
Library Workstations - General Information
- All machines have Microsoft Office Pro 2007
- Patrons can use personal headphones
- Information can be saved to a 3.5 floppy, CD or Flash drive
- Information cannot be saved to the workstation hard-drive or to an external hard-drive
requiring its own power source
- Printing is available for a small fee
- The library has one public Internet access computer equipped specifically for the
visually and physically impaired (donated by Portage Services for Seniors).
Library Workstations - Policy Overview
- Library members in good standing will be allowed to use the public computers free of charge
- The patron's membership card must be presented before the machines can be accessed
- A parent or guardian must sign a membership card for those under 18 years of age,
not only to join the library, but also to give permission to use the Internet
- Non-members can use the Internet computers for a fee of $3.00
- Users are limited to one logon per day, not to exceed 60 minutes in length
- While the library has a screening mechanism in place, it is not possible to control
material accessed by Internet users
- Assistance from library staff will be limited

no responsibility for downloaded material that could damage personal machines
